Chronic inflammatory liver diseases:
The liver is a central organ in our metabolism and fulfills various vital tasks in our body every day. Substances that have been absorbed into the bloodstream in the stomach and intestines enter the liver through the portal vein. Here, these substances are then utilized, stored, converted or broken down as needed. The liver forms a filter, so to speak, between the intestines and the rest of the body's circulation. Toxic substances, but also bacteria, are filtered out in the liver and rendered harmless. But the liver is also important for digestion. Every day, the liver produces bile, which is collected in the gallbladder and released as needed. The bile acids contained in it are of enormous importance for fat digestion in the intestine, but waste products are also transported to the intestine via the bile. In the last section of the small intestine, the bile acids are then removed from the intestine and transported back to the liver to be available again for fat digestion.
Various factors can cause chronic inflammation of the liver (hepatitis). Especially viruses, toxins, drugs and autoimmune diseases can lead to hepatitis. However, chronic liver inflammation can also occur in the case of a fatty liver (in this case there is too much fat in the liver cells).
Often there are no physical symptoms for a long time, only slightly elevated liver values are often noticed in the blood count. If physical symptoms do occur, they are symptoms such as nausea, fever, upper abdominal pain and possibly jaundice.

Toxic (liver damage) caused by liver toxins:
Various toxins can lead to damage of the liver. This poisoning can be acute or chronic, but often the regular intake of toxins leads to liver damage. Especially alcohol, various chemicals, medicines (such as ibuprofen, paracetamol), drugs such as ecstasy and toxins from moulds can damage the liver.

Cirrhosis of the liver:
If chronic liver inflammation is not treated, cirrhosis of the liver can develop over time. The liver tissue perishes and is replaced by connective tissue, i.e. scar tissue. However, this cannot fulfill the functions of the liver. The more intact liver tissue is lost, the less able the liver is to perform its tasks. This has serious consequences for the organism. Symptoms include fatigue, unwanted weight loss, itching, yellowing of the skin and mucous membranes, and blood clotting disorders.
